2024 United For Impact Economic Outlook for the U.S and California

Presented by: Economist, Dr. Mark Schniepp

UCON’s United for Impact Legislative & Elections Briefing took place on Monday, May 20th, in Sacramento. We hope it was an informative and engaging afternoon for those who attended. We are happy to share the 2024 Construction Industry Economic Presentation and Forecast Report from Dr. Mark Schniepp (UCON members only)

For the remainder of the 2024 legislative year, we remain committed to finding a path forward for our contractors on AB5 and PAGA protections through 2028, as well as protecting contractors from unfounded liability related to carbon emissions related to the use of materials. Beyond 2024, we are focused on finding a viable and long-term funding source for infrastructure to replace our reliance on the gas tax; we are exploring legislation that authorizes the use of a retention bond in lieu of retention being held on projects; and we remain deeply committed to protecting the lives and well-being of our workers through legislation that would put automated speed enforcement on active highway construction zones. We encourage you to talk to your Assembly Representative about any or all of these important issues.
