Committees

Taking Action

United Contractors has a variety of committees that focus on important industry issues and member services. All members are encouraged to participate at the committee level. Participation is the best way to get involved, stay informed and bring first-hand contributions to the advancement of our members and our industry. Find the committee that interests you and contact our staff liaisons to get involved.

  • Associate Committee

The associate members are champions of engagement within UCON by promoting the association's activities and initiatives.

  • Attorney Roundtable (ART)

The Attorney Roundtable is a collaboration of UCON attorney members and contractors' in-house attorneys. The Roundtable engages in discussions encompassing a variety of legal and policy issues that impact California's union-contractors. In facilitated meetings, they review and analyze current contractor-member challenges and make policy recommendations that are brought to the Legislative Committee.

  • Caltrans Liaison Committee

The CA Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is the largest state DOT in the nation. The Caltrans-UCON Liaison Committee was established to provide a forum for contractors and Caltrans to improve business relations. The committee meets quarterly at Caltrans HQ in Sacramento and actively engages with Caltrans officials at the highest levels to provide key industry input. Topics include DBE challenges for all stakeholders, safety updates, materials testing, DRB processes, payment procedures, specification updates and more.

  • Labor Executive Committee

UCON CRAFT & LABOR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES

UCON’s Labor Executive & Craft Committees are the leadership bodies that set strategy and policy for labor relations statewide as well as drive our partnering programs with the unions to address industry issues such as the skilled labor shortage, industry regulations, and union market share. Committee members can volunteer to negotiate our collective bargaining agreements. Access to the craft committees is limited to contractors who assigned their bargaining rights to United Contractors.

  • Legislative Committee

UCON’s Advocacy team exists to improve the market share for union-contractors at all levels. The Legislative Committee serves as the chief platform for members to provide input and ideas on a wide variety of legislation relevant to our contractors. The committee meets twice annually and on an as-needed basis to review, analyze and provide input on a wide variety of policy and legislative matters.

  • Los Angeles Metro Committee

The LA METRO Committee serves as a platform for members to provide input and ideas on existing jobs and future Bidding of Jobs for our contractors.  The committee meets every three months on the 2nd Wednesday to review, analyze and provide input on working with LA METRO.

  • Nominations & Leadership Development Committee

Established in 1992 by the UCON Board of Directors, this Nominating Committee's primary focus is on recruiting and cultivating potential prospects for future Board leadership. The intent is to build a talent pipeline of leaders to serve the industry for years to come. The Committee recommends candidates for the Board of Directors, develops leadership for the future, and oversees the nomination process. This Committee consists of the Past President and VP/President-Elect as Chairperson and four other members.

  • Political Action Committee

    PAC

The UCON Political Action Committee (PAC) has proven to be one of the most effective industry PACs in California. It has laid the foundation for some of our most important successes: protecting SB 1 funding, the Road Repair & Accountability Act; securing a construction carve-out for independent truckers under AB 5; legislation to make 5% retention permanent policy in CA; securing the union-contractor market share in public works, defeating extreme environmental and anti-business legislation, and more. And it has paved the way for tens of billions of dollars in federal, state, and local infrastructure measures.

Over the next two years, there will be a record number of open seats and competitive races across the state, which could change the climate of state politics for a generation. It’s more important than ever that we fight to elect and defend candidates who are pro-build, pro-industry, and support union contractors.

The UCON PAC and our allies need you now. It is the one vehicle we have available to support candidates that support our industry. Contributing to the UCON PAC ensures your political dollars protect and defend your business, no matter what size or specialty.
