UCON-Backed San Francisco Prop A Approved, Authorizing $535M in Infrastructure Investment

San Francisco voters approved Proposition A with overwhelming support, authorizing $535 million for earthquake safety, emergency response, and public infrastructure improvements. UCON supported the measure because it will fund critical upgrades across the city while generating millions of dollars in construction investment and future work opportunities for union contractors. 

UCON played an active role in the campaign effort, including hosting a successful fundraiser with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie that helped generate significant support for the measure. We extend our sincere thanks to the many UCON contractors and industry partners who contributed to and supported the campaign. Their engagement helped secure a major investment that will create significant work while improving essential emergency response facilities relied upon by San Francisco residents and businesses. 

United Contractors Supports Prop 45 to Build California's Essential Infrastructure Faster

United Contractors is proud to be a part of the growing coalition supporting Prop 45 (Building an Affordable California Act) - a broad alliance of infrastructure advocates, water providers, business, and more working together to make California more affordable and deliver the essential infrastructure California needs.

For too long, unnecessary permitting delays and costly litigation have slowed or prevented the construction of the essential infrastructure Californians depend on. These delays increase costs, create uncertainty, and postpone projects we’re ready to build.

Prop 45 establishes clear, enforceable timelines for environmental review and court challenges while maintaining California's strong environmental protections. By creating a faster, more predictable approval process, Prop 45 will help move projects years sooner—reducing costs, accelerating investment, and creating a stronger pipeline of infrastructure work across California.

Prop 45 accelerates approvals for a wide range of essential infrastructure projects, including:

Water Infrastructure

• Main replacements, new wells, storage tanks, pump stations, and drinking water treatment facilities
• Surface water storage, dams, reservoirs, groundwater recharge, and conveyance pipelines
• Desalination, water recycling, wastewater treatment plants, and flood control projects

Transportation Infrastructure

• Bridge replacements, seismic retrofits, bridge widening, and interchange improvements
• Road and highway upgrades
• Bus stations, heavy and light rail, and other public transit projects

Clean Energy & Electrical Infrastructure

• Solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects
• Substations, transformers, battery energy storage systems, and microgrids
• New transmission lines, distribution upgrades, and undergrounding

Housing

• Single and multi-family housing, including new master-planned communities and infill apartment complexes
